Why Hire A TPBA GRAD?

By hiring a graduate, you can mold the individual to be the bartender you want at your restaurant. Hiring experienced bartenders doesn’t always mean that you’re restaurant will be successful. Experienced bartenders can in fact pose a risk to your operation. Standard procedures and processes are how a restaurant maintains consistency and proper service. If a experienced bartender has too much experience, you may find yourself hearing “That’s not how I do it.” often. A good bartender is a chameleon. They’re able to adapt to any environment. Hiring inexperienced bartenders can in fact benefit you. If you as the employer put the time into molding your new employees, those individuals may become your best employee. We’ve seen it happen.

We understand training takes time. At TPBA, we take an active role demonstrating the motor skills and memory it takes to be good. Shadowing is not how we do our training. 75 percent of TPBA’s program is hands on training with a fully stocked bar including double tiered speed wells and soda guns. Through our structured 40 hour bartending curriculum, TPBA’s industry experienced instructors develop individual’s understanding of:

  • Brand knowledge
  • Upselling
  • Building methods
  • How to ID properly
  • Customer service behind the bar
  • Aloha Point of sale training
  • Speed training
  • The process of making the most popular cocktail

Upon the last day of class, all students are tested on their abilities of a consistent free pour, fluid recipe knowledge, and speed.

When you hire a TPBA grad, you will know what you’re dealing with in terms of experience, capabilities, and what type of training that individual has completed. Training and education can reduce your employee turnover tremendously. We understand inexperience can mean an investment of time and money, but would you rather have an employee for 2 months or 2 years? Give us a shot and let our graduates pour one for your customers.

Meet Kevin!

In 2014, Kevin was working as a promoter in the Richmond bar industry. Night after night, Kevin saw how much money the bartenders were making at the bars that he was promoting. As a result, Kevin decided to switch his career path to a more stable income and registered for classes at PBA. Within 2 weeks of completing the course, Kevin landed his first bartending job at Society Nightclub. Since Kevin's first bartending job, he has continually built his resume and clientele. Through Kevin's hard work and personable customer service, Kevin was awarded the Style Weekly’s Best Bartender of 2016!

"I found that by the end of the first week I knew more than most of the bartenders that I've worked with in the past." -Shane

Meet Shannon!

Previously, Shannon was working as an assistant at a local Orthopedic office. She was looking for a change because her life goal was to become a nurse. The one problem she had though, she couldn't work 40 hours a week and go to nursing school. As a result, Shannon thought bartending would be a great way to make money while going through nursing school. While attending class, Shannon learned the core basics of bartending to help her get her start. With no experience in the Food and Beverage industry, Shannon landed a bartending job at Southern Railway Taphouse. Since taking the class, she has made her tuition back plus thousands of dollars in return for the education she received. We are proud of Shannon and her accomplishments!

Meet Justin!

Graduate Justin V. who completed the course in 2011 has continually worked to better himself. Justin has landed multiple bartending jobs and management jobs at bars such as Social 52, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Tay Ho Restaurant. In addition to volume bartending, Justin has also developed himself into a flair bartender. For the past 3 years, has been competing in local competitions and 2016 has proven to be his year. In 2016, Justin has won both the Bartender's Brawl in Short Pump and Cha Cha's Cantina Bartending Competition for a total winnings of $1800 dollars!

"Wow! Greaaaat class! Exceeded my expectations! The schedule suited me great while the kids were in school" -Lorrie

Meet Jessica!

As a single mother of 3 children, Jessica was finding herself in a bind. Cash was tight and she was looking for something to help supplement her income. As a result, Jessica reflected back on her previous work experience and remembered serving at Applebee's in college. Shortly after Jessica's epiphany, Jessica gave us a call and enrolled for evening classes. Once she completed her bartending certification, Jessica found a bartending job at 2113! We are proud of Jessica and the balancing act that she does everyday between work and life.

"Our instructor pushed us to be the best we could be!" -Angela

Meet Jack!

After graduating college in Texas, Jack came back to Richmond to live with his parents. While Jack was saving money for his next chapter in life, he decided to take a bartending class to give him a skill that he could travel with. Shortly after successfully completing the class, Jack attained his certification from Professional Bartending Academy and made the move to New Zealand. Currently, Jack bartends in Queenstown, New Zealand at a bar called Coyote Grill. Recently, Jack gave us the update:

"An update from down under: Coyote has asked me to feature a drink specials menu to be added to/updated on a weekly basis. Right now, the specials include Blue Margarita, Kool-Aid, French Toast, Turqoise Blue (which I call Oceano Pacifico), and a Melon Margarita I created, subbing Midori for Triple sec/Cointreau. Which actually tastes a lot better than I expected, and has been really popular since we started serving it. Coming soon to Coyote grill: the Desert Rose shot (tequila with a dash of hot sauce) and the Colorado Bulldog...which has now become the Queenstown Bulldog. Thanks TPBA, much love from New Zealand."

"KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!" -Ashley

Meet Uma!

Prior to enrolling at the Professional Bartending Academy, our grad Uma already had a bartending job at a restaurant. One of the problems though was that Uma's on the job training wasn't good enough for her to bartend anywhere but the place she learned at. As a result, Uma choose to enroll for the bartender certification. Immediately after graduating Uma hit the pavement hard and found a bartending job within a week.
